oscillator is the first complete electronic track I ever wrote. It took a long time to finish and mostly is the result of me learning and employing concepts for the first time. consequently, it was also my final project for an ableton course I took at a music school in San Francisco.
I think its probably the most rhythmic track on the album, which was inadvertent, but I remember my music teacher challenging me to make and work on tracks that were deliberately focused around instruments I was weak on. Drums have always been really tough for me, especially because I find it far easier to sequence my drums then play them on pads, keys, controllers.
Working specifically in areas you are weak was good advice (and I'd pass it along to anyone still reading), but, for me came at the cost of enjoyment. oscillator was an extremely hard tune to finish and it was frustrating to develop from the beginning.
Can you hear my head banging against the table? I can..
